Roughly 50 automobiles have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Police say they were notified late on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored liquid.
The fluid had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then discovered many other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.
Officials report preliminary tests suggest the fluid was most likely human blood.
"Currently there is no clue as to where it came from; authorities are not yet cognizant of any harm in connection with the occurrence," they added.
City officials stated they were working "to resolve the mystery" and have requested to the residents for information.
A high-ranking representative stated the vandalism made him stunned and had to be solved promptly.
"This incident affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right attack in 2020," he posted on a platform, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
