The highly-awaited Season 2 of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel debuts on Prime Video this week, and audience theories has been rampant.
The first season presents a large cast of characters residing in Hell and Heaven, sets them at odds with musical numbers detailing their conflicts, and builds heated competitions and emotional bonds that fuel fan obsession.
The fandom's stated hopes for the new season differ greatly, but certain threads emerge over and over: Could a fan-favorite character escape his tormentor? Will we find out more about the mysterious "deal" constraining the enigmatic Alastor? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Naturally, I don't produce the show with fan service as the main goal," the creator stated recently. "But I feel like me being a fan of my own show means there's a lot of it just inherently. I also want to see these things, and I want some of these things to happen, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator says her long-term vision is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have received approval by Prime Video and A24, which produce the series.
That could imply viewers have to be patient for some of the major resolutions — but they may be surprised at how quickly the new season moves, and how much of what they're anticipating unfolds now.
"I feel like people are going to get a lot out of it," the creator notes. "We get some firsts. I think we get some really amazing disclosures, some really cool origin tales, and even basic elements, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience additional musical numbers from the previously silent cast members."
She's certainly aware of the theories and desires about season 2 — particularly in the format of fan bingo cards.
"I've seen a couple people create a bingo card about the new season," she says. "Naturally I won't share it, but I've already completed some of them, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 premieres on Prime Video on October 29.
